Internal activity

From colours and shapes grows not only a picture, but a feeling of calm, expression, and contentment.

Painting is a valuable means of expression for people with autism and NDD. It promotes non-verbal communication, offers a safe way to process emotions, helps reduce stress and sensory overload, and strengthens self-confidence through visible achievements.

  • Non-verbal communication: Many people on the autism spectrum find verbal language tiring or use it only sparingly. Colours and shapes offer an intuitive way to share inner worlds, moods, and experiences.
  • Emotional regulation and stress relief: The creative process can have a strongly calming effect. It helps channel inner restlessness or anxiety and better cope with sensory overload.
  • Strengthening self-confidence: Free creative expression allows one to experience a sense of self-efficacy. The result promotes security and stability, since there is no right or wrong in painting.
  • Promoting motor skills: Especially for children, painting and drawing activities train fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
