Weaving

Internal activity

With every thread, not only a piece of work is created, but also calm, structure, and joy.

Weaving is especially valuable for people with autism and NDD, as it combines a predictable, strongly structured process with sensory stimulation. This craft activity is often used in occupational therapy and offers those affected a range of benefits:

  • Structure and predictability: Weaving follows clear, logical steps. This provides security, helps with coping with everyday life, and prevents sensory overload.
  • Sensory integration: The rhythmic, repetitive movements (often referred to as stimming) calm the nervous system, promote concentration, and help release built-up energy.
  • Visual and spatial thinking: Autistic people often think very visually and in a detail-oriented way. Weaving makes it possible to create a tangible, structured finished product, which strengthens self-confidence.

Thanks to loom donations from la Maison du Tissage (the Weaving House), we are able to offer hand weaving.More information.
