Functional and Integrative Medicine

“You can only successfully optimise the software (behaviour) once the hardware (biology) runs smoothly.”

Recognising the biological causes

While these highly effective approaches already play a central role in North America, biomedical and integrative interventions here are, unfortunately, still just getting started. While classical therapies mostly focus on behaviour, integrative biomedicine targets the biological foundations of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). It views the body as an interconnected system, in which physical health forms the basis of every mental development.

1. The somatopsychic approach: from body to mind

Often only "psychosomatic" disorders are discussed. Biomedical and integrative medicine, however, focuses on the somatopsychic relationship: chronic inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, or metabolic blockages act directly on the brain. Behavioural abnormalities are thus often the visible symptom of an invisible physical imbalance.

2. Nutrition and nutrients as a foundation

Targeted nutritional therapy and the supplementation of high-dose nutrients (vitamins, minerals, amino acids) are essential therapeutic tools. They help offset biochemical deficits, support cellular energy production (mitochondria), and gently regulate brain chemistry.

3. The gut-brain axis, neuroimmunology, and detoxification

Modern research shows that the flow of information from the gut to the brain is significantly stronger than the other way around. A disrupted microbiome or a dysregulated immune system can impair the nervous system. Another essential pillar is therefore targeted detoxification: by supporting the body's natural elimination functions and reducing environmental burden, the brain is freed from biological "stress".

4. A worldwide movement: ARI & DAN!

This approach is carried by a strong international community. The Autism Research Institute (ARI) has been doing scientific pioneering work for decades. Through the DAN! network (Defeat Autism Now!), doctors, therapists, and parents have joined forces to demonstrate one thing: by healing the physiological foundation, we enable the child to unfold their full potential.

5. From screening to targeted diagnostics

To support this path, we have developed a specific screening questionnaire based on the work of these international experts. It allows us to assess biological burdens or possible deficits in the organism at an early stage. This first, valuable assessment serves as a guide for the subsequent targeted laboratory analyses, which can conclusively diagnose the causes and establish an individual treatment plan.
